Nomads say break does not provide respite

Fallen giants Mighty Wanderers say the three-week TNM Super League break will not provide them breathing space.

The Lali Lubani Road outfit has only won one out of seven league games—in what is probably one of their worst starts to the season.

They are distant 12th in the 16-team league with seven points from seven matches, having drawn four and lost twice.

Said the club’s general secretary Victor Maunde: “Yes, some quarters might think the break gives us some breathing space, but we do not see it that way.

“The truth is that we are raring to get things fixed. We would have loved to continue playing because we are desperate to turn the corner. We are determined to recover and start doing well.”

He also said the results are not a true reflection of the team’s ability.

“In fact, in our last game [against Mighty Tigers], we were a much improved side. We only have to improve on scoring, that is all,” he said.

Team captain Alfred Manyozo Jnr also brushed off suggestions that the break gives the Nomads a moment’s respite.

“I believe we are just going through a bad patch which happens in football.

“We were determined to get things right from this week only to hear about the break.

“In fact, we are worried that the break could affect our fitness,” he said.

Nevertheless, the Nomads’ on-field leader said they hope the break will give their officials a chance to source some funds to motivate the players.

The Nomads have not scored in the past four games, translating to 270 minutes and are yet to register a win at home.
